11-11_giftHave you ever been in a situation where you were wrapping a present for someone and you only have one box? And unfortunately the item is just a little too big for the box, but you try to stuff it in anyway? You add tape to the sides just to hold two pieces of the box together and the item is bulging out, but you are determined that item is going in that box because you don’t have any other way to wrap the present?

I think many of us try to do the exact same thing with God. We have a situation going on in our life and we can only see one way this situation is going to work, so we begin to put God in the box as our way of dealing with the situation. We begin to contort God and His word to fit into our little box to make it work so we can wrap it up nicely and put a big ‘ol southern bow on it. What would happen if we let God out of the box, and we allowed Him to work the situation out in His way? I think we would begin to see God work in ways we could never imagine. I think we would begin to see our lives transform, as our hearts were opened to allow God to work it out as He sees fit. I really believe our lives would become less complicated and they would become testimonies of God’s greatness.

I know it can be hard to really comprehend all that God is capable of, and I don’t think we can ever fully comprehend it all, but He has given us a glimpse of the amazing things He can do when He is left to His own devices.

First, He created the Heavens and the Earth in six days.

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

That does not fit into any box I can come up with. He spoke the world into existence. If we really believe that, what can’t He do?

Second, He came to earth as human through a virgin.

Luke 1:34-35 “And Mary said to the angel “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy- the Son of God.”

Third, He died on a cross and three days later He arose, was resurrected and ascended into Heaven.

Matthew 28: 5-6 “But the angel said to the women, “do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said.”

Luke 24:51 “While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into Heaven.”

There are so many other amazing miracles God did to display His greatness and His power throughout scripture. He parted the Red Sea, He conquered huge armies with smaller armies, He healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, made the deaf hear, cast out demons, etc. So, when we read all that He has done, why is it so hard to allow Him to have authority and control in our lives? What is it that keeps us from believing He can turn any situation, no matter how grave, around?

It’s us! We get in the way. We complicate the equation by trying to do what only God can do. We aren’t the only ones who do this. The disciples sat there and saw the miracles He performed right in front of them, but they still struggled. In Matthew 14, Jesus walks on water towards His disciples and Peter steps out of the boat to walk towards Jesus, but became afraid and began to sink. And in verse 31 “Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Dear friend, I’m not trying to condemn you for not believing God is capable, I’m in the same boat you are. I have struggled many times believing God would or could handle my situation. There have been times I have tried to figure out the solution on my own and what I have learned is that most of the time my solution may work, but it isn’t the best. God’s way is the best. I have seen time and time again that His way is perfect. My way may work out fine and be good, but His way is SO MUCH BETTER! Whatever you are grappling with, I pray you hand it over to God. I pray you allow Him out of the box to do what only He can do.

Ephesians 3:20 is a favorite verse amongst the women of Craving God Ministries, “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”

It takes a little bit of faith and a lot of trust to hand over our troubles. Trust and faith come as your relationship with God grows. As those two things grow, it becomes easier to allow Him to handle our hurt and pain. It becomes easier to allow Him to control the areas of our lives where we have lost control. Allow Him to show you His way of working out your situation.

Just remember Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than you ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

God does not do things according to the world, culture, or society. His ways are much higher than that.
