Your parent. Your sibling. Your best friend. Your spouse. Your colleague. Your classmate.
The happiest and kindest person you know.
The athlete who holds all the records.
The student determined to achieve greatness.
All people. All shapes. All sizes.
No matter where you are in your life chances are you know someone who has contemplated or attempted suicide. Sadly, we aren’t aware of the suffering they are enduring until it is too late. Whether we knew the individual or not, we always think “I wish there was something I could’ve done”.
Everyone is fighting their own battles. No two are the same. We all are fighting battles of different shapes, sizes, and even time frames.
Everyone. Has. A. Battle.
Imagine a world where we are more proactive about mental health than reactive. A world where we aren’t just saying “It’s okay to not be okay”, but we are actually living that and supporting those around us. A world where we have the tough conversations, reach out to loved ones and strangers, and not take “I’m fine” as an acceptable response. A world where we aren’t so distracted by our technology, our work, our busy schedules to actually connect with those around us and make each other feel like there is a reason to get past today and live for tomorrow.
There’s a bible verse I cherish and hold close to my heart. I recite it every morning when I wake up.
Esther 4:14 “Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created”
This verse keeps me humble on my good days and hopeful on my bad days. What I love about this verse is the perhaps. Perhaps this is the day for which you have been created. Perhaps it isn’t. Only God knows and can reveal to us our purpose for being placed on this earth, living this life.
Whatever battle you are fighting today, tomorrow, in the future – know that you have purpose. You have a reason for which you have been created. You might reach a point where you don’t want to go on. Where your heart is just too heavy. Where you don’t feel strong, courageous, loved, or purpose. When you reach that moment, remember the perhaps. Perhaps this isn’t the day for which you have been created, but that just means you are one day closer to it. Keep pursuing that day. Perhaps is God has something great for you down the road. Perhaps is YOU ARE HERE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD. I hope and I pray every day that everyone I know, and even those I don’t, are able to see their worth and their potential. The world needs you. I need you.
I want to see you achieving your dreams, finding your purpose, and making the world a little better just because you are here and still in it.
“Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created” Esther 4:14
“And if not, He is still good” Daniel 3:18
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. There are articles all around Facebook including this one outlining way to get involved. This post is coming after National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week, but let’s not let that stop us from continuing the conversation throughout the rest of the month, and every day that follows.
Everyone knows someone. Start the conversation, be involved, make a difference.
