God’s Direction

What Do You Crave Most?

At Craving God Ministries our goal is to provide encouragement through truth in the word to ignite passion and relationship so that you can answer this question with the one thing that matters most, God.

Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. – Psalm 119.35

Several years ago, I worked at a hospital that was about an hour commute from my home. The drive was a mixture of interstate, winding country roads, and streets with multiple traffic lights. One section of my drive had significant road work with frequently changing speed limits and lane closures. One morning on my way to work, I was frustrated with the road work and feeling as though I hit every red light on my way to the hospital. It was at this moment that I started thinking about what my commute would look like if none of these structures were in play. I started to wonder how safe I would be if I or other drivers had no guidance or direction of a speed limit or a sign of caution before a winding curve. Sure we would be able to drive as fast as we wanted in any direction, but how safely would we make it to our destination?

Just as driving safely in our car warrants having rules of the road to guide us and keep us from an accident, God’s love and commandments protect us as we follow the path He has for us versus being left to our own devices. Scripture provides an abundant amount of verses that illustrate that much of the Lord’s role is guiding our path and that He delights in it.

God will instruct me and teach me in the way I should go. He will guide me with His eye. – Psalm 32:8

I trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. In all my ways I acknowledge Him and He directs my paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me. – Psalm 138:7

Thus says the Lord, my Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go.” – Isaiah 48:17

Taking this analogy further, let’s think about how we react to road blocks or red lights when we’re on our own time table and in a hurry. We’re usually left frustrated because we don’t want to be delayed getting to the destination at a time that we’ve planned ourselves. But how do we react to red lights or road work when we’re confident we’ll make it to our final destination without a specific time table? We’re likely to be more calm, less worried, and maybe even thankful that we were provided with ample signage cautioning us that the road ahead would be bumpy, delayed, or an alternate route needs to be taken. I don’t know about you, but I see this as a parallel to my relationship with Christ. I am guilty of frequently creating plans for my life on my own time, but I praise God that He is quick to show me that all things will occur in His timing.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. – Proverbs 19:21

He said to them: It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. – Acts 1:7

There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven – Ecclesiastes 3:1

Sweet sister, this traffic comparison has taught me that much like obeying traffic rules to keep us safe and efficiently get us to our final destination, submitting to God’s lordship provides us with the shield of faith and beautiful freedom in Christ. We are not only free from the bondage of sin but we’re free from a spirit of fear that the enemy can hurt us.  I challenge you today to see your “roadblocks” as an opportunity to ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you in your situation. I pray that you see your obstacles as an opportunity to grab the Lord’s hand and ask Him to show you where to go. Beloved, just remember that the will of God never takes you where the grace of God will not protect you.

The will of God will never take you,

Where the grace of God cannot keep you.

Where the arms of God cannot support you,

Where the riches of God cannot supply your needs,

Where the power of God cannot endow you.

The will of God will never take you,

Where the spirit of God cannot work through you,

Where the wisdom of God cannot teach you,

Where the army of God cannot protect you,

Where the hands of God cannot mold you.

The will of God will never take you,

Where the love of God cannot enfold you,

Where the mercies of God cannot sustain you,

Where the peace of God cannot calm your fears,

Where the authority of God cannot overrule for you.

The will of God will never take you,

Where the comfort of God cannot dry your tears,

Where the Word of God cannot feed you,

Where the miracles of God cannot be done for you,

Where the omnipresence of God cannot find you.

Father God, I thank you for the roadblocks and traffic lights that you’ve put in my life.
