Jesus, I Need You

What Do You Crave Most?

At Craving God Ministries our goal is to provide encouragement through truth in the word to ignite passion and relationship so that you can answer this question with the one thing that matters most, God.

This past week I have found myself in a funk.  I don’t know if you get in funks, but I do.  They don’t happen often, but when they do I don’t want to go anywhere or really be around anyone.  I was extremely tired after traveling the prior weekend visiting family.  I thought I just don’t feel well or I’m just tired.  Second, I thought I just miss my family.  We had a great weekend and now I miss them.  As the week went on I realized what was going on.  I have gone days without spending time with my Lord.  It hit me when I started reading scripture one morning and that day was completely different than the three days before.  I felt more energized.  I don’t know about you, but it takes a toll on me when I go without spending time with God.  That has not always been the case or at least I was not aware of it, but now, I don’t feel right when I miss out on my time with God.  I need Him.  He is my lifeline.  He is my source of strength, patience, love, compassion, energy, and everything else.

There is a popular worship song that says, “Jesus, I need you, every moment, I need you”.  I think sometimes I forget how true these words are, especially when things are going well.  What is your life like when you go without spending time with God? We literally need air to breath, every second, we need air to breath.  We literally need food and water to survive, maybe not every minute, but on a regular basis.  To live a life pleasing to God, I definitely need Jesus every minute.

I need Him to give me strength when I’m tired, to give me peace when I’m fearful, to give me patience when I’m not seeing how something is going to work out. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble”. Psalm 46:1

I need Jesus to be the wife He has designed me to be because without Jesus I am selfish and in it for my own gain. “But the wisdom that comes from Heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere”.  James 3:17

I need Jesus to be the mother He has designed me to be because without Him I can be quick to anger and my wisdom can only take me so far. “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love”.  Psalm 103:8

I need Jesus to put a guard over my mouth so I don’t say something I might regret. “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips”. Psalm 141:3

Yes, I need Jesus every moment.  Many times I try to do so much on my own and when I do, I fail.  The closer I get to God, my Father, and the more time I spend with Him I realize more and more how much I need Him and I learn how to depend on Him.  How can I rely on Jesus every minute?

  1. Prayer.  When I wake up my first prayer is Jesus, I need more of you and less of me today.  What I am saying here is I need Jesus to take over and I need to allow Him to guide me instead of trying to figure it all out on my own. I talk to God all day long.  I praise Him and thank Him for the many blessings in my life and I ask for His help throughout the day.  I pray for friends and family members who come to mind throughout the day and sometimes He leads me to call them or send them a text.  I pray for God to help me put others before myself, to be my refuge when I need a moment of rest, to guard my mouth so I don’t say something I shouldn’t.  The days, and there are those days, when I don’t do this, are hard.  We have to realize we are not capable to live the life pleasing to God without Him because we are sinners.  God knew we could never keep His commands and that is why He sent His Son as a sacrifice for our sin.
  2. God’s Word.  I tend to read it daily.  I get scripture in one way or another through an app or my Bible.  I like devotional apps and apps where you can read the Bible through in a year, but what I love is my paper Bible.  I love opening my Bible and reading it right off the page.  I love being able to write notes in it or underline something that stands out to me.  My Bible is a study Bible and has footnotes with commentary and information about the history and that allows me to dig even deeper.
  3. Worship.  I listen to praise and worship music throughout the day.  If I’m having a rough day, one way to turn it around quickly is through listening to praise and worship music.  Music has always been a way for me to connect with God.

Here’s the awesome thing about God: He doesn’t hold grudges against us.  No matter how long you’ve gone without spending time with Him, He will always welcome you back.  Just start somewhere.  Read one or two verses and meditate on that throughout the day.  Ask God to help build your desire to spend time with Him.  I promise, when you put forth the effort He will give you that desire.  It becomes a part of you and when you go without it, you feel it.

Heavenly Father,

We need you daily.  In fact, we need you every second of every day.  I pray you create a desire in the hearts of these women to spend time with you every day.  I pray that a day can’t go by without us depending on you.  God, you are our power source.  Thank you, for loving us and welcoming us with open arms like the Father you are.
