“Going through the motions doesn’t please you,

a flawless performance is nothing to you.

I learned God-worship

when my pride was shattered.

Heart-shattered lives ready for love

don’t for a moment escape God’s notice.”

Psalm 51:16-17 The Message

God-Sized Dreams

What is a God-sized dream? The crazy dreams that we could only ever achieve if God steps in? (Yes, that scary dream that you know is impossible under your own power). These dreams are gifts that the Lord gives us: burdens to be something that we can only be if He gives us the power to transform; feats to accomplish and goals to achieve that are utterly impossible to do separate from Him; and outlandish ideas that make people exclaim, “That would take a miracle!”.

God-sized dreams are the BEST. Yes, they are scary to think about at first. Once you accept that God has put something on your heart for a reason, you realize that he gave you this dream to draw you even closer to Him. He knew it would drive you to Him to achieve it.

Let’s study Psalm 51 together and apply it to our adventures stepping into the God-sized dreams God has placed in our hearts.

Going through the motions doesn’t please you

This told me that I need to start right where God has placed me- right in my current circumstances. How do you get started on my God-sized dream? You just take the first step, right where you are.

Live with intention. Make the most of every single day.

“If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.” Ecclesiastes 11:4

The tyranny of chaos and the business of your everyday life is the enemy of God’s plan for your life. Stop being busy and letting life happen to you. Stop sitting back and allowing time to be sucked away from you. Instead, live intentionally.

Write down your values and goals. Is your everyday activity getting you closer to living your values and goals? If not, make some changes and make some serious time management decisions. I heard a wonderful concept recently: schedule your values first.

For me, that means waking up earlier to spend time with God and to study before I head to work.  I am a single mom, so it also means saying no to activities at night and on weekends when I have opportunities to spend time with my teenage son. I have wonderful friends that I meet for lunch, breakfast or coffee, but I try to keep my nights and weekends open for my family.

a flawless performance is nothing to you

Live with courage. Perfectionist performances are something we do under our own strength. Trust that God has your back and is always working things out and using them to further His plan.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

This means that even when we fail (or think that we fail), He uses that. Nothing is wasted with God. Therefore, failure is not something to be feared. Instead, failure is just part of the process. Have you realized that when you try and fail and keep going you inspire others? I have learned much through my “failures”. There is always purpose to our pain.

When we focus on ourselves through our own lens and only on our own abilities, we are missing how God sees us. His vision for us is for us to be living dependent on Him.

When we are walking towards God-sized dreams we will need His power working through us. Walking with Him into our God-sized dreams, we trust that He goes before us making a way even when it appears there is no way.

I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered.

Live with confidence. We live in a headline culture, but we serve a God who is about the story.

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.”

2 Corinthians 5:17

Headline: You’re too lost, too broken. It’s too late

Story: Our Lord is STILL restoring, transforming and He doesn’t operate in the world’s timing.

Don’t let feelings of insecurity stop you. Some of us are praying for things God has already given us! God wants us to do and be things because HE wants to show His glory through us by allowing us to do things that we can ONLY do with God!

Don’t believe the lie that you are disqualified. Shame and guilt from your past are not from God.

Grace means we can stop paying off our past with our future.

Heart-shattered lives ready for love don’t for a moment escape God’s notice.

Live with faith. He notices the small, the weak, the broken and the unlikely among us and uses us in mighty ways for His glory.

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.”

2 Corinthians 4:7

There is a hope attached to your life. This hope is displayed as the light of Christ inside you- leaking out through every pore on your body! The contrast between the fragile container and its precious contents has a purpose. It is to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us!

I challenge you to:

Write your God-size dream; pray and ask God to prepare you for what He’s already prepared you for;

and rest in the peace that He is with you every step of the way!
